FAQs

We offer private lessons year round thanks to our Indoor Rowing facility! If you prefer to have lessons on the Oklahoma River, we offer those 7 days a week between March and October!

We suggest having comfortable athletic clothes, water shoes or shoes that you do not mind getting wet, and a water bottle. If you plan to participate in outdoor rowing lessons, we suggest bringing a ball cap/sunglasses and sunscreen.

Benefits of Indoor: Hands on training for fundamentals and to review the basics. If you have a private rowing lesson scheduled and there is bad weather, this provides the option to keep your lesson by moving inside!

A Message from Melanie: ‘Find Your Stride at RIVERSPORT’

Senior Director of Athletics at RIVERSPORT

“Walking into a boathouse for the first time can feel intimidating. Rowing has its own language, its own rhythm and a lot to learn — but no one walks through our doors expected to know it all.

That is one of the things I love most about the rowing community at RIVERSPORT. Whether you have been rowing for years or have never picked up an oar, there is a place for you here. Our coaches, athletes and families all play a part in welcoming new people into the boathouse and helping them find their own stride. There is no rush to perfection. You learn, you grow, and before long, you become part of the community that helps welcome the next person in.

As Athletic Director, I have had the privilege of watching our boathouses transform year after year. I have watched teams grow, athletes develop, friendships form and a true rowing community take shape. Today, RIVERSPORT has become a powerhouse for rowing nationwide — but what makes me most proud is how we got here.

We grew by opening our doors. By introducing people to a sport they may never have imagined themselves trying. By welcoming athletes at every level — including those who started with zero experience — and giving them the opportunity to discover what they are capable of.

That is what these teams mean to me. Every person who walks into our boathouse has the potential to become part of something bigger, whether they row for a season, compete for years or simply discover a new way to challenge themselves.

If you have ever been curious about rowing, I hope you will come see what our community is all about. You don’t have to be a rower to walk through our doors. You just have to be willing to start.“
