About Rowing
Rowing began as one of the earliest forms of transportation but evolved into sport in the 18th and 19th centuries. The first intercollegiate sporting event in the U.S. was a rowing race between Harvard and Yale in 1852 – and the rivalry continues to this day.
Rowing can be highly competitive and athletically demanding, or you can opt to row just for fun. It’s a great addition to your regular fitness routine – you get a complete workout that includes cardio, strength training, flexibility, coordination and balance – and it requires a level of focus that will clear your mind and refocus your energies.
