Discover Kayaking FAQs

Discover Kayaking FAQ

Welcome to Discover Kayaking! We hope you find this information helpful.

Q: Where do I go for the class?

Discover Kayaking is held in the Boathouse District, 800 RIVERSPORT Drive in downtown Oklahoma City. You will meet your instructor at the Youth Pavilion beneath the Sandridge Sky Trail (tall adventure course with zip line).

Q: What to bring?

You want to bring sunscreen, a water bottle and a hat. If the weather is on the cool side, please pack a light jacket in case of chilly winds. You will have the chance to use a small locker for your car keys and cell phone. However, this locker is not large enough for purses or gym bags, so please leave those items in your car. All participants are required to wear a PFD (personal floatation device) which will be handed out upon arrival. All equipment needed is provided during the class.

Q: What do I do if I can’t make my class?

Please contact the Paddlesports Manager, Raegan Coffey, via email at rcoffey@okcbf.org as soon as you are aware that you will not be able to attend your scheduled class.

Q: What do I do if the weather is bad?

If there is inclement weather, you will be contacted the day of your scheduled kayak class with cancellation instructions for a reschedule.

Q: What should I expect?

During this family-friendly class you will learn basic strokes, maneuvering techniques and general safety rules for flatwater kayaking. Discover Kayaking is a perfect introduction to either sprint or recreational paddling. Once you have the basics down, join one of our coached programs!

Q: What paperwork needs to be completed?

If this is the first time in the current calendar year that you will be engaged in RIVERSPORT activities, you will need to fill out a waiver before getting on the water.Waiver
