PaddleFest Dragon Boat Festival

Dragon boating is the world’s fastest growing water sport, and PaddleFest is a great way to experience it! From an exciting race for novice dragon boaters to a full slate of competitive events for the region’s most experienced teams, there’s something for everyone. Experience PaddleFest during the Stars & Stripes River Festival on June 23 and the Oklahoma Regatta Festival, September 28-30. Registration is now open for PaddleFest during the Stars & Stripes River Festival!

PaddleFest Recreational Dragon Boat
Forming a team for PaddleFest is easy and a great way to get on the water with family, friends or colleagues. Each PaddleFest registration includes a 90-minute practice under the supervision of a coach to prepare your team for an Oklahoma original, the 18-person 250m Hong Kong FlagCatcher. This event starts with an exciting 125m sprint to the flag, followed by a 180 degree turn to return to finish – first flag across the finish line wins! You choose your practice time slot, whatever day works best for your team of 18. This recreational event require 16 paddlers, with at least 6 female paddlers per team, a flag catcher & one drummer. Registration is $400 and includes one 90-minute lesson, 250m Hong Kong FlagCatcher event entry, coaching and equipment.

PaddleFest Competitive Dragon Boat
Local, regional and national competitive dragon boat teams race in traditional 10-person Hong Kong style dragon boats over 500m and 200m as well as an Oklahoma City original, the 18-person 250m Hong Kong FlagCatcher.

PaddleFest 500m and 200m competitive events include a coed (minimum 4 female paddlers) and an all women’s category. Additional categories may be offered to accommodate demand, all teams require 10 paddlers & one drummer to keep their team in stroke. PaddleFest competitive dragon boat events will begin as early as noon on June 23 and continue into the evening.

The competitive 18-person 250m Hong Kong FlagCatcher starts with an exciting 125m sprint to the flag, followed by a 180 degree turn to return to finish – first flag across the finish line wins! This coed event requires 16 paddlers, with at least 6 female paddlers per team, a flag catcher & one drummer. Experienced steerers are provided, traveling teams are welcome to provide their own steerer. Registration is $500 and includes event entry fee for all three competitive events, a steerer and equipment.
