Oklahoma State University Partnership
Oklahoma State University formally announced the establishment of its swiftwater rescue program at RIVERSPORT Rapids in the Boathouse District in August 2016. The announcement was made at the kayak boathouse where the program is headquartered.
“We are pleased Oklahoma State University (OSU) will conduct swiftwater rescue training, a part of its internationally respected fire protection and safety training program, at the state-of-the-art RIVERSPORT Rapids facility in Oklahoma City’s Boathouse District,” said Elizabeth Laurent, Boathouse Foundation spokesperson. “Located on the east end of the rapids, the Kayak Boathouse is the ideal headquarters for the program because of its size and position on the course. OSU was granted the opportunity to identify the building as the location for the program as part of our partnership.“
OSU established the program as an expansion of its fire protection and safety training program.
“The RIVERSPORT Rapids swiftwater training course will further elevate our already internationally recognized fire protection and safety training program at Oklahoma State University by providing an unmatched venue where first responders will train in a real-world setting,” said Gary Shutt, Oklahoma State University spokesperson.”
“We are thrilled our swift water training program will be located in a world-class venue that is part of the impressive Boathouse District in Oklahoma City. We are also pleased our support of this important academic program allows us a presence on the Oklahoma River. This facility will enable us to provide a level of training we believe will help first responders save lives in the years ahead. We will look forward to working with those involved to develop a permanent signage package in accordance with existing standards and styles.”
